I have really great friends. You know those people, the ones who like you so much they would do anything to make sure you're OK? Who want to be around you for who you are and you feel the same about them? Who make sure you're included? I have 12 of them (6 couples) just in my neighborhood. I know it sounds really strange, but there is a huge group of us in our neighborhood and we all hang out together. And that's not just outside with the kids on a sunny day; we plan trips and travel. We've been to Vegas, Jamaica and Cancun with at least part of the group the past 3 years. My friend, C, found the walk-in clinic that was open on Saturday evening a couple weeks ago and then drove me there when the Boy had a fever he couldn't shake. M & K had the Girl over to play after the Boy was born, so I could have a little time with him. The Girl has an imaginary friend named after S and another named after her daughter. Any one of them would help us out at the drop of a hat. They are so wonderful and I'm so sappy I'm making myself sick, sorry about that!
Our next door neighbors had a pool party on Sunday to celebrate Labor Day (really we were just celebrating one more day off!) It couldn't have gone better! C called me from the grocery store to see what brand of deli meat she should buy. She and my other friend, S, made gluten free (ie without cream of chicken soup) party potatoes for me. R and J always make sure there is supply of gluten free beer, or wine I can drink. My "special" brats were grilled separately from everything and brought in on a separate plate. C even hid them in a baggie in case I wanted seconds. And I made these delicious lime-mint daiquiris.
Lime-Mint Daiquiris
1 can frozen lime-aid
1 can water
1/2 can rum
2 Tbls sugar
2 Tbls fresh mint
ice
Mix lime-aid, water and sugar and rum in blender. Add mint leaves and enough ice to make it the consistency you like - blend.
All in all it was a great day. The sun was shining, the pool was cool, the drinks were cold and the food was gluten free!
ETA - Oh yeah, those daiquiris, they're better with rum!
